Retirement Income Planning in Allen

We help you turn savings, pensions and Social Security into income you can count on each month. The same small team reviews your accounts, compares annuity and life insurance options, and stays with you after the plan is in place. You get a plan on paper, not a pitch.

A paycheck after the paychecks stop

Retirement income planning answers one question: how much can you spend each month, and for how long, without running short. We look at what you have saved, what Social Security will pay at different claiming ages, any pension you have earned, and the costs that never go away, like health premiums and property taxes.

From there we show where insurance products fit. A fixed or fixed indexed annuity can create income that lasts as long as you do. Cash value in a whole life or universal life policy can act as a reserve for lean years or protect a surviving spouse. Some clients need both, some need neither, and we say so.

We are insurance agents, not tax preparers or investment managers. When a decision touches your taxes or brokerage accounts, we bring your CPA or advisor into the conversation instead of guessing.

What the planning covers

  1. 01

    Income gap worksheet

We set your guaranteed income against your monthly spending and find the gap your savings have to fill. That one number drives every other decision.

  2. 02

    Social Security timing

We run the numbers for an early claim, a claim at full retirement age and a delayed claim at 70, with any spousal benefit factored in. A later start brings a bigger check, as long as other savings can carry you until it begins.

  3. 03

    Annuity comparison

If guaranteed lifetime income makes sense, we lay out fixed and fixed indexed options side by side. You see payout rates, surrender periods, rider fees and what your beneficiary would receive.

  4. 04

    Existing policy review

We read any whole life or universal life policy you already own for its cash value, loan terms and whether it still does the job you bought it for.

  5. 05

    Pension survivor choices

A single-life pension backed by life insurance sometimes beats a reduced joint payout, and sometimes it does not. We run both versions so you can compare the actual numbers.

  6. 06

    Written summary

You keep a plain written plan showing each income source, when it starts and what it depends on.

When an income plan is worth starting now

  • Five years or fewer from your last paycheck

In these years your Social Security, pension and annuity choices are still open. After you file or elect, most of them cannot be undone.

  • Savings with no withdrawal plan

A healthy 401(k) balance does not tell you what you can safely spend. Without a plan, people tend to overspend early or live more tightly than they need to.

  • A pension election form is waiting

Single life, joint and survivor, or lump sum. The choice is usually permanent, so see the trade-offs on paper before you sign.

  • An old contract you do not understand

If you own an annuity or policy from years ago, we read it with you, check surrender charges and riders, and tell you plainly whether it still fits.

  • Concern for a surviving spouse

If income drops when one of you dies, the plan should account for that now, while there are still affordable ways to cover it.

How we build your plan

  1. 1

    A first conversation by phone

You tell us when you hope to retire and what you have put aside. We listen more than we talk, then list the documents that will help, such as Social Security statements and pension estimates.

  2. 2

    A sit-down review

We meet at your place of business or wherever suits you and go through the numbers together. The agent who took your first call is the one across the table.

  3. 3

Options laid out side by side

We show two or three income approaches with the strengths and costs of each. Nothing is applied for at this stage, and there is no deadline to decide.

  4. 4

    Paperwork and follow-through

If you choose a product, we handle the application, track it with the carrier and confirm with you when it is issued.

  5. 5

    A yearly check-in

Rates, health and goals change. We revisit the plan each year with the same people who built it.

What shapes the cost of a retirement income plan

The first call and the review are free. Carriers generally pay the agent a commission when a contract goes into effect, and we explain that arrangement for each product we show you. The meaningful differences between plans come from the costs built into the products.

When your income begins
Annuity payments are larger the later income starts. Beginning at 70 rather than 62 can noticeably raise your monthly amount.
Extra features
Options like a lifetime withdrawal benefit, annual cost-of-living increases or a bigger amount for heirs usually carry a yearly fee deducted from the contract. We tell you which ones are worth it for you and which to pass on.
Length of the surrender period
Longer surrender periods often pay better rates but lock up your money. Shorter ones give up some return in exchange for flexibility.
Your health, when life coverage is included
If the plan adds a new life policy, your age and health determine the premium, and underwriting may take several weeks.
Covering one life or two
Income guaranteed over two lives pays less each month than income guaranteed for one.

Questions clients ask about retirement income

Do I need an annuity to retire comfortably?

No. Many retirees manage well on Social Security, a pension and careful withdrawals from savings. An annuity is just one way to cover essential bills with guaranteed income. If what you already receive handles the basics, we will tell you directly.

Is it possible to roll my 401(k) into an annuity?

In most cases, yes. A direct rollover into an IRA annuity generally avoids taxes at transfer, and we handle the paperwork with your plan administrator. Before any money moves, we weigh fees and surrender terms against keeping it where it is, and we recommend checking the tax details with your CPA.

What does Texas having no state income tax mean for my plan?

Your withdrawals, pension and annuity payments face only federal income tax, which makes the math easier. Property taxes are often a larger expense in a Texas retirement budget, so we include them from the beginning.

Will one person handle my plan throughout?

Yes. Our team is small, and the agent who begins your plan stays with it through the application and each annual review. Nobody hands you off to a call center once you sign.

Can you help clients who live outside Allen?

Yes. We have clients in Plano, McKinney, Frisco, Wylie and throughout the surrounding area, by phone or in person.

What should I bring to the first meeting?

Bring your most recent Social Security statement, any pension estimate, recent account statements and copies of current life insurance or annuity contracts. If something is missing, begin anyway. We can fill in the gaps along the way.
